Egyptian banks roll out high‑yield savings certificates

Egyptian banks are expanding their savings‑certificate offerings as the Central Bank keeps the deposit rate at 19% and the loan rate at 20%. The National Bank of Egypt and Bank of Egypt lead the market with fixed‑rate products such as the Al‑Blatiny (17.85% annual, payable monthly) and Al‑Qimma (17.75% annual, payable monthly or quarterly). Both banks also provide stepped or declining‑rate certificates that start at 22% in the first year and fall in subsequent years. Variable‑rate options from Bank of Egypt, CIB and others return around 19%‑20% depending on the Central Bank’s corridor. Cumulative products, for example the African Arab Bank’s Emerald Quadruple, promise up to a 100% return over four years. Minimum purchase amounts range from 500 to 1,000 Egyptian pounds, making the instruments accessible to small savers. With inflation recorded at 14.3% in June, these high yields aim to preserve purchasing power for Egyptian households.

The banks’ aggressive rates are intended to attract depositors and compete for savings, offering monthly, quarterly or annual payouts and various risk‑adjusted structures to suit different investor preferences.
