Egyptian Football Association launches new club licensing framework
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced a new licensing system tailored to the structure of Egyptian clubs. Executive Director Mustafa Azam explained that, unlike the European model which applies only to football clubs, Egypt’s system must accommodate multi‑sport entities and company‑owned clubs.
The regulations focus solely on direct football revenues and expenses, which must be managed through an independent account. Clubs without a corporate holding can open a separate football bank account, while clubs that own a company—such as Al Ahly—may either keep football revenues in the corporate account or establish a distinct football‑only account.
Azam stressed the independence of the licensing and appeal committees to guarantee transparency and neutrality. He added that each club’s board alone determines the valuation of sponsorship contracts for its football side. The EFA will monitor implementation, adjust the rules when needed, and intervene promptly to prevent any manipulation. He also warned that FIFA often rules in favour of players if a club’s legal position is weak. Daily contacts with club administrations and pre‑rollout meetings are being held to clarify the new requirements.
