Egyptian Drug Authority Confirms No Change to Drug Pricing, Expands Traceability System

The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has dismissed rumours that it will cancel the mandatory pricing of medicines. Assistant head Dr. Yassin Ragaa told television that all drugs in the Egyptian market will continue to be subject to fixed, government‑set prices and that there are no plans to remove the printed price labels on packaging.

The agency also said the digital drug‑traceability system it launched in February will be expanded in August to cover more imported and locally produced medicines. Each package will carry a unique QR code containing production, expiry and official price data, aimed at improving monitoring, preventing counterfeit drugs and enhancing transparency without affecting retail prices. The EDA urged the public to rely on official communications and avoid speculation that could lead to unnecessary stockpiling.
