Egyptian Farmers Union calls for agricultural solidarity fund

Hussein Abu Saddam, head of the Egyptian Farmers Union, has emphasized the critical role of Egyptian farmers in maintaining national food security. Describing farmers as the nation’s ‘green army’ and its internal front, Abu Saddam highlighted their contribution to both domestic stability and the economy through significant export volumes.

To support the agricultural sector against challenges such as climate change and rising production costs, Abu Saddam called for several key interventions. These include the establishment of an agricultural solidarity fund to compensate farmers for losses, the expansion of contract farming across all crops, and the provision of essential supplies—including fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, and equipment—at affordable and sufficient quantities.
