Egyptian House of Representatives adjourns session over university law objection
The Egyptian House of Representatives has adjourned its general session, with proceedings scheduled to resume next Monday. The decision follows the assembly's approval of a general committee report regarding a presidential objection to Article 25 of the draft law establishing Kayan University for Applied Sciences by the Armed Forces.
Article 25 concerns financial benefits for students in the military division of the university, specifically proposing a monthly stipend equivalent to the first salary of a lieutenant, as well as annual bonuses for high-achieving students.
Speaker Hisham Badawi announced the formation of a special committee to re-examine the article. The committee will be chaired by Deputy Speaker Assem El-Gazzar and includes several members from the education, legislative, and defense committees. The committee is expected to hold its first meeting this coming Wednesday.
