Egyptian Journalists Syndicate forms sub-committees in five governorates

The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, led by President Khaled El-Balshy, has approved the formation of five sub-syndicate committees in the governorates of Gharbia, Marsa Matrouh, Aswan, Kafr El-Sheikh, and Port Said. This decision follows Article 61 of the Journalists Syndicate Law No. 76 of 1970.

These committees are designed to enhance union presence outside Cairo by monitoring the professional conditions of journalists at the local level, documenting grievances, and communicating regional needs to the General Syndicate. The committees are tasked with following up on professional rights and working to improve the journalistic environment in their respective regions.

To maintain centralized control, the General Syndicate has established specific regulations: sub-committees may only be formed in governorates where the number of resident practicing journalists is between 15 and 30. Furthermore, these committees are prohibited from contacting official or unofficial entities without coordination with the General Syndicate and are barred from accepting gifts or donations from public or private institutions. All committee decisions must be submitted to the General Syndicate within one week for ratification.
