Egyptian lawmakers call for localizing water and sanitation industry
Members of the Egyptian House of Representatives and Senate are advocating for the localization of the manufacturing industry for water and sanitation project supplies. Lawmakers argue that developing this sector must extend beyond building stations and networks to include the local production of equipment, spare parts, and advanced technological solutions.
Representative Mohamed Samir emphasized that establishing a national industrial base would protect state infrastructure investments, reduce reliance on imports, and mitigate the impact of global supply chain disruptions. He noted that localization should encompass control systems and advanced operating technologies, supported by technical training and technology transfer.
Representative Naglaa El-Asily highlighted that the long-term challenge lies in maintaining operational efficiency. She stated that regular maintenance, continuous updates, and the availability of local operating supplies are essential to protecting public assets, reducing breakdowns, and extending the lifespan of facilities and equipment.
