Egyptian MP Samir Al‑Bayoumi urges government action after child drowning in Qalyubia

Member of Parliament Samir Al‑Bayoumi submitted a parliamentary question to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and the Minister of Local Development and the Environment demanding an urgent plan to halt the recurring drownings in the Nile waters of Qanater Al‑Khairiya, a tourist city in Qalyubia Governorate. He cited the recent fatal drowning of a girl under five years old and noted that similar incidents have repeatedly occurred, especially during holidays, due to insufficient safety measures. Al‑Bayoumi blamed chronic neglect, pointing to the lack of rescue teams, inadequate warning signs along the riverbanks, insufficient high fences in steep areas, and the absence of public awareness campaigns about the dangers of swimming or fishing in the Nile. He asked the authorities to clarify the steps they will take, provide a written response to his question, and present an immediate safety plan to protect residents and visitors from further drownings.
