Egyptian Musicians Syndicate suspends Essam Sasa
The Egyptian Musicians Syndicate has issued disciplinary actions against Mahraganat performers Essam Sasa and Omar Kamal. Essam Sasa has been suspended from singing and all artistic activities for six months following a controversial TikTok live stream in which he appeared to be smoking a cigarette of an unusual appearance.
Syndicate head Mostafa Kamel stated the decision aims to enforce professional ethics and self-regulation on digital platforms. While no official criminal evidence regarding the contents of the cigarette has been confirmed, the Syndicate emphasized the need for appropriate media appearances. In response to the suspension, Essam Sasa expressed his respect for the Syndicate’s decision on social media, stating, “What God has decreed and what He willed has happened.”
Additionally, the Syndicate has summoned singer Omar Kamal for an urgent investigation. This follows reports that he violated a previous written pledge to refrain from using specific lyrics or phrases in his performances. The Syndicate maintains that such pledges are legal and ethical obligations intended to regulate the musical scene and prevent the use of vulgar language.
