Egyptian National Railways announces schedule changes and new passenger discounts

The Egyptian National Railways has announced significant updates to its operations and subscription systems to improve efficiency and reduce costs for passengers.

Starting in September 2026, the authority will implement several schedule changes, including the suspension of certain trips on Fridays and holidays for specific routes such as Cairo/Alexandria and Salhia/Abu Kebir. Additionally, several 'Tahya Misr' train services on the Aswan/High Dam and Benha/Mit Ghamr lines will be suspended until further notice. Some train departure and arrival times for services traveling to Sohag and Aswan will also be adjusted.

In a parallel move to ease financial burdens on citizens and students, a new subscription system will launch on September 15, 2026. This system introduces discounted rates for various passenger categories based on the duration of the subscription, ranging from one to 12 months. For example, on 'Tahya Misr' trains, subscribers may receive discounts of up to 50% for 12-month commitments. The new policy also adjusts the monthly trip allowance to 40 trips for subscriptions covering distances up to 500 kilometers.
