Egyptian National Railways enhances services for elderly and disabled passengers

The Egyptian Ministry of Transport and the Egyptian National Railways have outlined enhanced services for elderly passengers and people with disabilities. To improve accessibility, the authority has designated special ticket windows at major stations and provides free electric carts and wheelchairs to assist passengers in moving between ticket offices and platforms.

Staff training has been implemented, including sign language instruction for customer service employees to better assist deaf and mute passengers. Additionally, luxury Talgo train units have been equipped with specific features, such as ramps and fully accessible restrooms, to accommodate wheelchair users. In accordance with Law No. 10 of 2018, persons with disabilities and their companions are eligible for a 50% discount on air-conditioned, regular, and sleeper train tickets upon presentation of an integrated services card.

Regarding station access, the Egyptian National Railways clarified that there are no fees for citizens entering station plazas to see off or welcome travelers. However, a 50 EGP fine is applied to individuals who bypass electronic gates to enter station platforms without authorization. This measure is intended to reduce overcrowding on platforms and ensure passenger safety.
