Egyptian National Railways restores Cairo-Aswan service after train collision

Egyptian National Railways has announced the full restoration of train services in both directions on the Cairo-Aswan line as of 5:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2026. This follows the resolution of a freight train collision near the Al-Blida station in the Al-Ayat district of Giza Governorate.

Emergency and maintenance crews worked to clear the wreckage, which included a locomotive and two wagons derailing from the tracks. The incident resulted in injuries to a train driver and his assistant. Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir has ordered the formation of a specialized technical committee to investigate the causes of the accident and determine responsibilities.

While service has resumed, the railway authority issued an apology to passengers for delays caused by the repair work and the temporary use of a single track during the recovery process.
