Egyptian National Theatre Festival 19th Edition Reveals Participant Line‑up and Opening Program

The 19th edition of Egypt's National Theatre Festival, chaired by artist Mohamed Riad, announced a roster of 34 main productions and three fringe shows. The lineup includes six shows from the House of Theatre, six from the General Authority of Culture Palaces, two each from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Hanjur Arts Center, as well as contributions from the Cultural Development Fund, folk‑performance groups, university theatre, amateur and civil‑society teams, and a private sector entry.

A press conference was held on 20 July at the Small Theatre of the Egyptian Opera House, with details of the opening ceremony slated for 25 July on the Grand Theatre under the Ministry of Culture, directed by Walid Aouni. The festival also honored four distinguished Egyptian artists and launched a research forum titled “Theatre and Audience: Does the audience go to theatre or does theatre go to the audience?” organized by a committee of critics led by Rasha Abdel‑Moneim, featuring sessions with scholars, critics, and practitioners discussing recent shifts in audience engagement and cultural policy.
