Egyptian Parliament committee probes telecom service gaps and internet pricing

The Communications and Information Technology Committee of Egypt’s House of Representatives, chaired by MP Ahmed Badawi, convened a series of meetings to examine multiple parliamentary requests concerning telecom infrastructure and service costs. Lawmakers highlighted the absence of landline and fiber‑optic connections in villages such as Awzab and Njuʿ in Minya Governorate, a severe shortage of Egyptian Telecom Company lines in the Blelna area of Sohag, and the lack of telephone lines in several villages of Samalut and Matai.

The committee also addressed concerns over inadequate mobile coverage in Mului, Minya, and the oversight of internet‑package pricing, including the impact of rising fixed‑line broadband rates on citizens. Ministers and officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, and the Egyptian Telecom Company are scheduled to respond with corrective actions to improve landline, fiber, mobile, and internet services across the country.
