Egyptian Parliament holds intensive committee meetings on subsidies and key reforms

Parliamentary committees in Egypt are convening this week for a series of intensive sessions covering a breadth of economic and social issues. The Economic Affairs Committee is reviewing proposals on subsidy eligibility, the suspension of food‑card distribution and the transition to cash assistance, while the Transport Committee examines a presidential decree on financing consultancy work for the metro line‑1 extension.

Other committees are addressing energy and environment concerns such as oil and gas production, rising energy prices, and a shortage of subsidised fertilisers. Education and health panels are discussing school construction, hospital upgrades, health‑insurance schemes and child‑milk programmes. The Budget Committee is deliberating amendments to the 2005 Income Tax Law and proposals on digital currency, exports and investment. Ministers of Finance, Agriculture, and Food Security are appearing before the committees to present plans on food security, strategic commodity reserves and related policy measures.
