Egyptian Petroleum Corporation thwarts fuel smuggling and fraud
The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation announced the results of its regulatory campaigns conducted throughout September to monitor the petroleum products market. In coordination with supply directorates and security agencies, the central committee successfully thwarted several attempts to smuggle and steal gasoline and diesel.
Key enforcement actions included:
• In Assiut, a gas station was caught manipulating fuel dispensers, resulting in the theft of 2,000 liters in a single day. The pumps were sealed and legal action was taken.
• In Aswan, authorities intercepted a truck carrying 6 tons of 92-octane gasoline intended for smuggling. Additionally, two modified vehicles equipped with unauthorized half-ton tanks for collecting diesel were seized.
• In Sohag, a tanker driver was caught stealing fuel during transit to Luxor, while another driver on the Cairo-Aswan desert road was found using a stove inside a vehicle compartment, creating a significant fire risk.
• In Dakahlia, a station was discovered illegally collecting petroleum products through a concealed hose system.
Overall, the campaigns resulted in legal reports against multiple stations in Damietta, Assiut, and Aswan regarding the illegal circulation of over 48,000 liters of petroleum products.
