Egyptian PM Madbouly expands World Bank ties, workers' protection

Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly met with World Bank Group Managing Director and Knowledge Chief Pascal D'Onofrio, accompanied by senior Egyptian officials, to deepen the partnership between Egypt and the Bank. The talks covered joint work in health, water, energy, tourism, food security, manufacturing, agriculture, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, as well as support for foreign direct investment, the preparation of the B‑READY business‑environment report and a plan to restructure the agency that develops small‑ and medium‑size enterprises.

In a separate cabinet session, Madbouly led discussions on extending social protection to informal workers, freelancers and Egyptians living abroad. Finance Minister Ahmed Koko, Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsi, Labour Minister Hassan Reda and the head of the National Social Insurance Authority presented measures to simplify enrollment, broaden insurance coverage to delivery‑platform workers, fishermen, construction laborers, craft sectors and other vulnerable groups, and to integrate these workers into Egypt’s social security system.
