Egyptian Pound Strengthens as Dollar Drops Below 50 EGP
The US dollar fell to below 50 Egyptian pounds in the inter‑bank market, marking its lowest level in three and a half months. The decline follows a de‑escalation of regional geopolitical tensions after an agreement to halt the US‑Iran conflict, which revived investor confidence and prompted a return of short‑term foreign capital to Egyptian Treasury bills.
Analysts attribute the softer dollar to an increased supply of foreign currency in local banks and expectations of continued external financing, including roughly $1.6 billion from the IMF and €1.5 billion from the European Union. Continued stability in the region and sustained inflows of foreign funds could keep the exchange rate in the 47‑48 EGP range.
The trend is seen as a positive signal for the Egyptian economy, reducing pressure on the pound and supporting market sentiment.
