Egyptian pound steadies as US dollar falls to about 48.85 per pound
During the first week of July 2026 the US dollar weakened against the Egyptian pound across the country’s banks. On 5 July the dollar traded near 48.85 EGP in most banks, after falling 10‑24 qirsh from the previous week. The Central Bank’s buying rate was 48.88 EGP and the selling rate 48.98 EGP. On 6 July the rate remained stable, with major banks quoting 48.82 EGP for buying and 48.92 EGP for selling. By 7 July the price slipped modestly, with several banks offering around 48.79 EGP to buy and 48.83 EGP to sell. Analysts linked the movement to global monetary‑policy cues and regional geopolitical tensions, while the Central Bank kept its policy rate unchanged, citing uncertainty and inflation concerns.
The lower dollar price has been noted by market participants as a sign of relative balance in Egypt’s foreign‑exchange market, with banks reporting consistent buy‑sell spreads and no major disruptions to liquidity.
