Egyptian Premier League 2026-27 set to start late August with new competition format

The Egyptian Premier League will commence its 2026-27 season on 20 or 21 August 2026, featuring 20 clubs. The first phase will include all teams before the league splits into a championship group of six clubs and a secondary group of fourteen, from which four will be relegated to the Professional League.

The summer registration window closes on 15 August 2026, and the league will pause on 20 September 2026 to allow a national‑team training camp after Egypt’s exit from the 2026 World Cup in the round of 16 against Argentina in Atlanta. A draw for the new season is scheduled for 5 August 2026 at the Al‑Hadaf project’s headquarters in Sheikh Zayed. The champion’s prize has been increased ten‑fold to 50 million Egyptian pounds, up from 5 million pounds previously.

The schedule and format were announced by the Egyptian Football Association, led by President Hani Abu Reida, and the Egyptian Clubs Association, represented by President Ahmed Diab.
