Egyptian Prime Minister Inspects Alexandria Metro Phase and Bir Masoud Coastal Revamp

Prime Minister Dr Mustafa Madbouly toured Alexandria, overseeing the first phase of the city’s new metro line. The 22‑kilometre section from Abu Qir to Misr, now 47 % complete, includes 20 stations (6 at surface, 14 elevated) and will operate 21 trains with 189 carriages built by the National Railway Company. Officials said the system will cut travel time from 50 to 25 minutes, raise capacity to 60 000 passengers per hour per direction and reduce fuel use and emissions.

Madbouly also inspected the redevelopment of the Bir Masoud area in the Miami district of the Alexandria coast. The project will add open‑air terraces overlooking the sea, preserve the historic well, and create a mixed‑use tourist and leisure zone with commercial space, promenades and public amenities. Authorities highlighted the aim of enhancing the city’s shoreline appeal while maintaining its cultural heritage.
