Egyptian railway authority adjusts Cairo‑Alexandria schedules and reduces speeds due to heat

The National Authority for Railways in Egypt released the full timetable for the Cairo‑Alexandria line on Sunday, 2 August 2026, listing departure and arrival times for premium Talgo, VIP, French‑modified, Spanish‑modified, third‑class air‑conditioned and dynamic‑ventilation services.

Because of extreme heat, the authority also ordered a temporary speed reduction on all lines from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to ensure passenger safety. Engineer Mohamed Amer Abdel Aziz, head of the authority, oversaw the implementation of automatic train control (ETC) instructions, mandatory technical checks before departure, and strict adherence to the reduced speed limits. The heat‑related measures caused average delays of 15–70 minutes on several routes, including a 20‑minute delay on the Cairo‑Alexandria line and longer delays on Cairo‑Asyut, Aswan, and other regional lines.
