Egyptian Senator proposes additional tax for low-income support

During a general session of the Egyptian Senate, Senator Yasser Galal proposed the implementation of an additional tax contribution ranging from 1% to 5% on major taxpayers. The proposal targets high-income individuals, including prominent businessmen, investors, artists, athletes, and media personalities, to help alleviate the economic burdens on low-income citizens.

Galal emphasized that the responsibility for addressing current economic challenges and rising prices should not fall solely on low-income citizens. He argued for a legal and fair mechanism to increase state resources to support vulnerable groups and enhance social solidarity.

The session also addressed broader economic concerns, including food security, market regulation, and consumer protection in response to rising costs of living.
