Egypt's Agriculture Minister Oversees Free Slaughter of 21,000 Sheep and Cracks Down on Land Violations During Eid
Minister Alaa Farouk, head of Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, directed continuous operations throughout the second day of Eid al‑Adha. Government slaughterhouses processed 21,891 sacrificial animals free of charge under full veterinary supervision, with 10,172 on day 1 and 11,719 on day 2.
The ministry also reported the removal of 90 illegal land occupations in the first two days of the holiday, coordinating with local security forces to enforce strict legal action. Support measures for farmers continued uninterrupted, including the electronic "Farmer Card" system that released about 8.2 million bags of subsidised fertilizer to agricultural cooperatives. Additional inspections targeted livestock markets and meat outlets to ensure product safety.
Central laboratories maintained full capacity, testing animal feed, fertilizers and food residues to safeguard export quality and domestic food security. Public facilities such as fish farms, regional zoos, the agricultural museum and a spring‑flower exhibition saw high visitor numbers, while ministry outlets supplied food and meat at reduced prices to meet public demand.
