Egypt's Damietta Port Restores Full Operations After Successful Tugging of Burning Gas Vessel

Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel Al‑Wazir praised the crews of eight tugboats that towed two gas‑laden vessels away from the Port of Damietta, averting a potential explosion. Four tugs moved a non‑burning storage ship more than 10 km from the quay, while the other four pulled a burning vessel 3.5‑4 km away from critical infrastructure. The minister said the crews displayed “courage and dedication” and highlighted the operation as a model of national spirit.

Following the incident, the Ministry of Transport issued a statement confirming that all port activities have returned to normal. Operations continue 24 hours a day with full capacity for receiving and dispatching ships, cargo handling, and logistics services. The ministry emphasized that the port’s berths, stations and safety systems are functioning efficiently, supporting uninterrupted trade and the country’s broader maritime development plan.
