Egypt announces Rabi' al-Awwal start and Mawlid al-Nabi date
The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta has announced that the month of Safar 1448 AH will conclude on Thursday, August 13, 2026, after the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Rabi' al-Awwal was not confirmed on Wednesday evening.
Consequently, Friday, August 14, 2026, will mark the first day of Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH. Based on this calendar, the Prophet's Birthday (Mawlid al-Nabi) is expected to fall on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, corresponding to 12 Rabi' al-Awwal.
In Egypt, the Mawlid al-Nabi is a significant religious occasion. While it is traditionally a paid public holiday, the specific date for the official government holiday is subject to a final decision by the Cabinet, which may involve rescheduling the day off to a different weekday.
