Egypt's Disability Council Trains Managers on Inclusive Workplaces in Damietta

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities organized a two‑day training titled “Building a Safe and Inclusive Workplace for Persons with Disabilities” on 15‑16 July at the Center of Civilizations in Damietta, Egypt. The workshop, held in cooperation with the local labour directorate and the governorate, brought together 25 human‑resources managers from various businesses.

Speakers, including Dr Iman Karim, general supervisor of the council, and Dr Hossam El‑Din Fawzy, governor of Damietta, explained the council’s role in helping employers meet the legal requirement to hire at least 5 % of their staff with disabilities, as stipulated in Law No 10 of 2018 and reinforced by Law No 11 of 2019 establishing the council. The training addressed stereotypes, recruitment practices, safety standards and the productivity benefits of inclusion. It formed part of the “Aidna” project implementing the cooperation protocol between the council and the Ministry of Labour, which has directed inspectors to verify compliance with the hiring quota and occupational‑health rules. The governor highlighted President Abdel Fattah el‑Sisi’s commitment to integrating persons with disabilities into national development.
