Egypt's Education Minister and Al‑Azhar Sheikh Sign Protocol to Boost Arabic Language

On 28 July 2026, Al‑Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el‑Tayeb met with Egypt's Minister of Education Mohamed Abdel‑Latif at Al‑Azhar's headquarters to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the religious university and the Ministry.

The officials signed a protocol that seeks to prioritize Arabic language instruction, enhance the national secondary‑school assessment system, and launch joint teacher‑training programmes. The agreement also covers the development of Islamic‑studies curricula and the use of Al‑Azhar's Quranic recitation experts to improve students' Quranic reading skills.
