Egypt's Electricity Minister visits Rosatom to discuss small nuclear reactor technology
During an official visit to Russia, Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, inspected a Rosatom factory specializing in the manufacturing and assembly of small nuclear reactors. The visit aimed to explore the latest industrial technologies and applications in the field of small modular reactors.
Discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation to support Egypt’s goal of diversifying energy sources and enhancing electricity supply security. The delegation reviewed manufacturing processes, safety systems, and engineering capabilities. A key priority of the visit was exploring the potential for technology transfer and the localization of industries related to small nuclear reactors in Egypt. This includes encouraging Egyptian companies to participate in supply chains to build a specialized national industrial base in advanced nuclear technologies.
