Egypt's GAHAR accredits 34 health facilities across 15 governorates
The General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR), led by Dr. Ahmed Taha, has announced the accreditation and renewal of accreditation for 34 health facilities across 15 Egyptian governorates. These facilities include institutions under the Ministry of Health and Population, private medical sector entities, university hospitals, and non-governmental organizations.
Dr. Taha stated that this expansion aims to institutionalize quality and patient safety as fundamental pillars of healthcare delivery. The initiative focuses on enhancing patient protection, improving care outcomes, and optimizing resource efficiency. A significant portion of the decision involves 24 facilities from the Ministry of Health and Population, which supports the readiness of family medicine units and the sustainable expansion of the Universal Health Insurance system.
Additionally, seven private sector facilities received full accreditation, highlighting the sector's role as a key partner in healthcare development. The decisions also include advancements in university hospitals, such as the preliminary accreditation of Port Said University Hospital and the renewal of accreditation for the Martyr Ahmed Shawky Hospital for Geriatrics.
