Egypt's Hamad Abuelrish draws attention as 235cm basketball center
Egyptian basketball center Hamad Abuelrish has drawn significant international attention due to his height of 235 centimeters. FIBA has identified him as the tallest player during the recent qualifying window for the 2027 World Cup.
Abuelrish, born in 1991, stands four centimeters taller than former NBA players Gheorghe Mureșan and Manute Bol, who were both 231 centimeters tall. FIBA noted that he could potentially become the tallest player to ever compete in one of their global events.
Beyond his physical stature, Abuelrish has been active in the Egyptian national team's qualifying campaign. In a recent game against Uganda, he recorded four points and seven rebounds in ten minutes of play. Throughout the current qualifying cycle, he has averaged 2.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. His professional experience includes playing for Egyptian clubs and Homenetmen in Lebanon, where he averaged 11.8 points and 13.4 rebounds per game.
