Egypt's Health Minister Khaled Abdel Gafar outlines One Health strategy and appoints new regional health directors

Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Gafar said Egypt is applying a "One Health" approach that links human, animal and environmental health. He highlighted that 60% of human infectious diseases originate from animals and warned that antimicrobial resistance is a major global threat. The minister linked national projects such as the New Administrative Capital, water‑supply and sanitation networks, and climate‑change mitigation to improved public health.

In a separate announcement, Abdel Gafar approved the 2026 deployment of directors and deputy directors for the country's 27 health directorates. The movement assigns 27 directors and 51 deputy positions, with most incumbents remaining in place, a share of new appointments, and a gender balance of 75% men and 25% women. The appointments aim to boost administrative efficiency and service quality across Egypt's health system.
