Egypt's Housing Committee sets legislative agenda

The Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives has established its work plan for the second session of the current legislative term. Led by Chairman Ahmed Shalaby, the committee held its first meeting to outline priorities and organize its oversight functions.

Key priorities for the upcoming period include amending the building violation reconciliation law, regulating relationships with real estate developers, addressing sewage infrastructure issues, and managing urban planning boundaries. To facilitate these tasks, the committee has formed subcommittees to monitor parliamentary inquiries and coordinate directly with the Ministry of Housing.

Chairman Shalaby emphasized that the committee will establish a mechanism to review progress rates on various files to identify obstacles requiring legislative or executive intervention. He noted that while the committee aims to support government efforts and state plans, it will maintain its legislative and oversight roles, stressing that “no one is above accountability.” The committee also highlighted the necessity of access to accurate data to effectively serve citizens' needs.
