Egypt's Labor Minister discusses union law amendments
Egypt's Minister of Labor, Hassan Raddad, chaired the second meeting of the newly formed Supreme Council for Social Dialogue at the ministry's headquarters in the New Capital. The meeting focused on discussing proposed amendments to Law No. 213 of 2017 regarding labor union organizations and the protection of the right to unionize.
To enhance the council's efficiency, the Minister proposed the formation of specialized technical committees to cover various labor and employment files. Members of the council, which includes representatives from the government, employers' organizations, and labor unions, have been invited to run for membership in these committees to ensure diverse expertise is applied to labor issues.
The initiative aims to strengthen institutional social dialogue, ensuring that legislative changes align with the Egyptian Constitution and international labor standards. The goal is to stabilize labor relations, protect workers' rights, and support investment and production through practical, applicable recommendations.
