Egypt prepares for Mawlid al-Nabi celebrations and holiday schedule

Egypt is preparing for the observance of Mawlid al-Nabi, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. In Qena, the Endowments Directorate has launched its first series of celebratory events at the Sidi Abdel Rahim al-Qanai Mosque. These activities include religious lectures and awareness programs led by various imams and scholars, focusing on the Prophet's biography, ethics, and the importance of following his teachings.

Regarding the public holiday, the official date for Mawlid al-Nabi in 2026 is Wednesday, August 26. While there is public speculation regarding whether the Egyptian Cabinet will postpone the holiday to Thursday, August 27, to create a long weekend, no official government decision has been issued to that effect as of August 16, 2026.
