Egypt's Ministry of Local Development advances urban and digital initiatives

Egypt's Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, is overseeing several initiatives aimed at improving urban environments and administrative efficiency.

In Cairo, authorities successfully relocated a large Delonix regia (Poinciana) tree using specialized heavy equipment after it unexpectedly fell onto a building in the Heliopolis district. The operation lasted approximately six hours to ensure the tree's roots and safety were preserved for replanting in a nearby location. This effort aligns with national directives to expand green spaces and maintain existing trees.

Simultaneously, the Waste Management Regulatory Authority is exploring digital transformation solutions to modernize waste management. Discussions are underway with the Egyptian Company for Tracking and Information Technology Services to implement GPS tracking for waste collection vehicles. This technology aims to improve operational efficiency, enhance monitoring and oversight, and support government spending rationalization through better resource management.
