Egypt's Ministry of Supply launches data‑update service for subsidy appeals at 500 post offices

Egypt's Ministry of Supply and Trade, together with the Ministry of Communications and the National Post Authority, introduced a service allowing citizens to complete the data‑update form for the 2026 social‑justice subsidy programme at 500 post offices across the country. The service began on Friday, 24 July 2026, with post offices open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, while the online portal "Egypt Digital" remains available every day.

Applicants must update their card data before filing an appeal (tazallum). Once submitted, appeals are received by a specialised committee that meets daily, reviews documentation, issues a decision, and notifies the applicant by SMS. Since the appeal window opened on 14 June 2026, only about 1.5 % of eligible cases have been submitted, reflecting tighter targeting. The ministry says the move aims to remove roughly 850,000 ineligible beneficiaries and ensure the 175 billion EGP allocated for bread and supply subsidies reaches the most needy families, including those in the Takaful and Karama programmes.
