Egypt's Minister Manal Awad unveils 41 ecotourism projects for Nabq Nature Reserve
Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad chaired a meeting to present the executive and investment plan for the Nabq Nature Reserve in South Sinai, along with the outcomes of the "Green Sharm" initiative. The plan outlines roughly 41 investment opportunities focused on ecotourism, including eco‑lodges, sustainable accommodation units, camping sites, educational and cultural programmes, community‑based tourism and adventure‑tourism activities. Proposals call for private investors or partnerships with local communities, with strict environmental standards to protect the reserve’s biodiversity.
Infrastructure preparations were highlighted: car parks outside the reserve, electric transport inside, environmental monitoring systems, surveillance cameras and an integrated waste‑management scheme. A specialised firm will be engaged to install and maintain marine mooring buoys to avoid uncontrolled anchoring and safeguard coral reefs. The ministry’s broader goal is to position Egypt’s protected areas as internationally recognised ecotourism destinations while preserving natural assets.
