Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority joins 70th IAEA General Conference

Dr. Sherif Helmy, Chairman of Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA), is participating in the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held in Vienna, Austria, from September 14 to 18, 2026.

As part of the Egyptian delegation led by Ambassador Mohamed Nasr, the permanent representative of Egypt to the IAEA, Dr. Helmy's participation aims to strengthen international cooperation regarding the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The mission seeks to exchange expertise and experiences to support the development of Egypt's national nuclear program.

The NPPA is currently responsible for overseeing the implementation of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, a strategic national initiative intended to diversify Egypt's energy sources and enhance energy security and sustainability. During the conference, Dr. Helmy will engage in meetings with IAEA officials and representatives from various countries and international institutions to discuss nuclear science, technology, safety, security, and technical cooperation.
