Egypt's Port of Sukhna Trans Cargo Station Receives First Vessels

The Trans Cargo station for general cargo at Egypt's Port of Sukhna has resumed regular operational activity, receiving its first two ships since the start of commercial operations. The inaugural vessels were the chip‑handling ship CHIPOLBROK SUN, which delivered the station’s 150‑ton main crane, and the bulk carrier CENTURY EAGLE – a 190‑metre vessel from the People’s Republic of China carrying about 52,500 tonnes of dry bulk. A third ship, TRANSMAR LEGACY, arrived from Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah port, further confirming the station’s readiness.

The activity follows President Abdel Fattah el‑Sisi’s directive to modernise Egypt’s port network and turn the country into a regional hub for transport, logistics and transit trade. The Sukhna‑Alexandria corridor links the Red Sea with the Mediterranean, and the new station is expected to boost port capacity, cut vessel waiting times and enhance maritime‑logistics services under global standards.
