Egypt's Sisi emphasizes regional stability and bilateral ties

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has emphasized the necessity of peace and institutional stability for economic growth during the Alamein Africa Forum. Addressing approximately 1,500 officials and investors, Sisi noted that stability is a fundamental requirement for investors and manufacturers. He highlighted that while Africa’s private sector accounts for over 70% of the continent’s GDP, it remains heavily dependent on external markets, with 85% of transactions involving entities outside of Africa. He also pointed out that intra-African commerce represents only about 18% of the continent’s total trade.

In a separate diplomatic engagement in Cairo, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki met with President Sisi to discuss bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and transport. The leaders addressed regional security, specifically focusing on the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea. They asserted that the governance and security of the Red Sea should be the responsibility of its bordering nations to ensure freedom of maritime navigation. Additionally, both leaders discussed the situation in Sudan, expressing support for solutions that respect national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
