Egypt's Suez Canal revenue jumps 13% as logistics market set for $14.7bn by 2031

The Suez Canal Authority reported a 13% quarter‑on‑quarter increase in Q2 2026 revenues, reaching US$1.26 billion, with 3,580 vessels transiting the waterway – a 7.7% rise – and oil‑tanker movements up 22.3% year‑on‑year. The rebound follows the 2025‑26 disruptions caused by attacks in the Red Sea, and is supported by higher crude‑oil exports, commercial incentives and improving regional security.

A Cabinet‑backed report projects Egypt’s freight and logistics sector to grow to US$14.66 billion by 2031, up from US$10.93 billion in 2025, at a 5.04% compound annual growth rate. Manufacturing remains the largest customer, while e‑commerce and private investment drive the fastest‑growing segments. Digital reforms such as the Nafeza single‑window customs platform have shortened clearance times. The sector employs about 2.9 million people, roughly 8.7% of the national workforce.
