Egypt's Tourism Minister discusses regenerative tourism in Tokyo

Sherif Fathy, Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, participated as a speaker at the ninth ministerial roundtable held during Tourism Expo Japan 2026 in Tokyo. The roundtable, titled ‘Reimagining the Future of Tourism - Investment Strategies Towards Regenerative Tourism’, addressed global challenges, digital transformation, and the importance of investing in human resources.

Fathy emphasized that Egypt is adopting a regenerative tourism model that goes beyond traditional sustainability. This approach aims to create long-term value for tourist destinations and local communities while actively enhancing community welfare, preserving heritage, and protecting the environment.

The Egyptian strategy focuses on building a resilient tourism sector through innovation, digital transformation, and public-private partnerships. These partnerships are designed to improve services at archaeological sites and museums, with revenues being reinvested into the preservation and maintenance of cultural and natural heritage.
