Egypt's Tourism Minister inspects Bahbeit al-Hagarat Temple
Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, conducted an inspection of the Bahbeit al-Hagarat Temple in the Gharbia Governorate to study its development and potential reconstruction. The temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis and dating back to the Late Period, covers approximately 20,000 square meters. Officials are preparing a comprehensive plan that includes technical and archaeological studies to restore the site's architectural elements.
During the visit, Minister Fathy also honored a local citizen, Khaled al-Shahat Khalil, for his honesty in reporting an archaeological stone block found on his land. This report assisted Egyptian archaeological missions in their rescue excavations, which have uncovered significant finds, including two large royal statues—one believed to be of Ramses II—and a pink granite block featuring hieroglyphic inscriptions of royal titles.
To recognize his civic responsibility, the Minister presented Khalil and his wife with a certificate of honor and an Umrah pilgrimage trip.
