Egypt's World Cup Run Credit to Al Ahly Players, Says Coach Jose Ribero

Former Al Ahly coach Jose Ribero praised the Egyptian national team’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, calling Al Ahly players the "secret" of the squad’s success. He noted that Egypt qualified for the round of 32 for the first time, finishing second in Group C and earning a knockout‑stage match against Australia.

Ribero told Spanish newspaper Marca, "I was very impressed by Egypt’s performance against Belgium; a large part of the team comes from Al Ahly and they are used to playing under pressure." He highlighted key figures such as Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, Mahmoud Hassan Trézéguet, Imam Ashour and Yasser Ibrahim.

He also commented on South Africa’s style, praising their speed and the talent of youngster Mofo Keng, but said the team still needs to improve its attacking efficiency.
