Ehpad nursing home costs rise due to inflation and sector differences

Costs for places in Ehpad (nursing homes) are rising, driven by inflation and geopolitical conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Pricing varies significantly based on location and the sector of the facility.

The total cost of a room is divided into three components: care, which is covered by Social Security; dependency, which is managed through Personalised Autonomy Allowances (APA) provided by departmental councils; and accommodation, which is the resident's responsibility but may be assisted by social housing aid (ASH).

Dependency levels are determined by a medical professional using the GIR (resource group) scale from 1 to 6. Individuals classified between 1 and 4 are eligible for APA. While basic services like catering and laundry are included in the standard accommodation fee, additional services such as private telephone lines or internet access may incur extra charges.

There is a notable price gap between sectors; public facility rooms can cost approximately 70 euros per day, whereas private commercial facilities can exceed 150 euros per day.
