Eight fishermen missing in Bay of Bengal from Andhra Pradesh
Eight fishermen from the B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh are missing in the Bay of Bengal. The group departed from the Odalarevu jetty on August 3 in a mechanized fishing vessel and was scheduled to return by August 12.
Communication with the crew was lost on the morning of August 3, shortly after their departure. While the vessel was equipped with mobile phones and a VHF set, no further contact has been established. The boat was reportedly carrying approximately 1,000 liters of diesel and sufficient provisions for a multi-day trip.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reviewed the situation and directed officials to intensify search efforts. The Indian Coast Guard has launched a special search operation involving vessels from Kakinada and Visakhapatnam. Additionally, fishing boats from Bhairavapalem and Paradip have been alerted to assist in locating the vessel, which was last known to be operating toward the Visakhapatnam and Paradip areas.
