Eight Brews Tea branch closes after slug found in milk tea

A tea chain in Taichung, Taiwan, has temporarily closed one of its branches after a customer discovered a live slug in a milk tea beverage. The company, Eight Brews Tea (also known as 8 Yaow He Cha), issued an apology and reported the incident to the municipal health bureau.

The customer reported drinking the beverage within 30 minutes and only noticed the moving slug at the bottom of the cup while rinsing it at home. The individual sought medical attention at an emergency room due to a “slimy feeling” in the throat; while initial blood tests showed no acute health issues, doctors advised continued monitoring.

Management from the company has committed to covering medical costs. The affected location is undergoing cleaning, disinfection, and pest control measures, and will remain closed until hygiene and safety standards are verified.
