Eight Dominican weightlifters compete in Ningbo World Championships
An eight-member Dominican weightlifting delegation has arrived in Ningbo, China, to compete in the Senior World Weightlifting Championships. The competition, running from October 27 to November 8, serves as a critical step in the international qualification process for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The team is led by Olympic and world medalist Crismery Santana and Yudelina Mejía. The full roster includes Dahiana Ortiz, Luis García, Alicia Féliz, Fransheska Matías, Julio Cedeño, and Daina Serrano. The athletes traveled to China ahead of schedule to acclimate to the local time zone and environmental conditions.
Willian Ozuna, president of the Dominican Weightlifting Federation (Fedompesa), stated that while the athletes aim for the podium, the primary objective is to secure as many qualifying spots as possible for the upcoming Olympic cycle. The technical staff includes head coach Héctor Domínguez and Colombian coach Oswaldo Pinilla.
