Colombia's Bogotá–Villavicencio Road Receives Major Investment to Stabilize Vía al Llano

The Colombian government, through the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), announced a multi‑phase funding package to address chronic landslide and erosion problems on the Bogotá–Villavicencio corridor, known as the Vía al Llano. The short‑term allocation exceeds $9 billion Colombian pesos for immediate mitigation work at the critical Kilometer 18 section, which has repeatedly suffered landslides. In the medium term, roughly $100 billion pesos will finance structural solutions, including the construction of the Naranja bridge in the Bogotá‑Villavicencio direction and the permanent stabilization of Kilometer 18. The 85.6‑km highway carries about 11,000 vehicles daily and links the capital with the agriculturally and petroleum‑rich Llanos Orientales, making its reliability vital for the national economy. The investment aims to prevent future closures, improve road safety, and ensure continuous traffic flow along this strategic route.
